Part D: Drug Program
The drug program is a way to add coverage to Original Medicare. It helps cover the costs
of prescribed medications.
Prescription Drug Plans are usually priced between $15-$40 per month and you can sign up
by visiting
medicare.gov
or by calling 1800-MEDICARE.
Each Medicare Prescription Drug Plan has its own list of covered drugs. This is known as a formulary.
It contains a list of drugs under a certain plan. The drugs are placed into different tiers and
each tier has a specific cost.
Depending on the drug, a plan may have rules associated with it. The drug might:
-Require prior authorization
-Use Step Therapy
-Have quantity limits
